In its present incarnation, yin yoga is combination of Hatha yoga, Chinese Daoist practices and western science of the body. While not actively strenuous, yin is not Gentle Yoga.
Yin is used to get deep into our connective tissue and fascia, through the use of long, passive holds propped to achieve correct alignment. In the stressing of our deepest connective tissue, yin yoga mobilizes our joints, ligaments and deep fascial networks.Due to the nature of the length of time spent in each pose, yin yoga lends itself to meditation and a deeper connection to our internal landscape. To help facilitate this, meditation techniques, aromatherapy, pranayama and sound healing will be used throughout the practice.
Suitable for almost all levels of students, Yin Yoga is a perfect complement to the dynamic and muscular (yang) styles of yoga that emphasize internal heat, and the lengthening and contracting of our muscles. Yin Yoga generally targets the connective tissues of the hips, pelvis, and lower spine.
Use this weekly Yin yoga class to help balance out your yang (vinyasa) practice and find a deeper sense of harmony physically and mentally.
